1. You don’t have to close down GP to switch between companies or users.
All you have to do is click either on the company name or the user name in the bottom left corner of GP.
This will pull up the Company Login Window. Now you can switch companies or switch users.
This would have saved me so much time those first two weeks I was using GP before I saw someone else do this!
2. Tab versus Return.
GP defaults to have the tab key be the entry key. So many users are used to having the return key be the entry key and hate that they have to remember to use the tab key instead. You can choose!
Go to Microsoft Dynamics GP—User Preferences
Then select whether you like the Tab key or the Return key and life can be so much easier.
3. Make that pop up reminder go away!
I think the pop up reminder window is so annoying. I know what I need to do today, and if not I can always look at my To Do list on my home page. To get rid of the reminder window hover your mouse over the To Do bar on your home screen. A little pencil icon and the question mark help icon will appear.
Click on the pencil icon to open the To Do Details window. Under Reminders check the box next to Microsoft Dynamics GP reminders. Hit OK and next time you log in the reminder window will no longer annoy you…I mean open when GP loads.
4. You don’t have to enter the full date in date fields unless you want to change the year.
Typing in the current year over and over again is so time-consuming. GP allows you to type in just the date or just the month date combo into a date field, and GP will figure out the rest based on your system time.
So today’s date is 4/10/2009. In a date field, I could just type the number 10 and GP will give me a date of 4/10/2009. I could also type in the number 410 and GP will give me a date of 4/10/2009. It’s April, but I want a date of January 7, 2009. Just typing 17 in my date field will not give me 1/7/2009. GP will give me 4/7/2009. Typing 107 will give me 1/7/2009. Another example, typing 111 will give me 1/11/2009 not 11/1/2009. You have to think about it a bit, but it will save you time.
